Bookmad privacy policy
Last updated October 10, 2026
Effective 10 October 2026. This policy covers the app Bookmad: Track & Read Books (com.gurmehub.bookmad), published by Gurmehub under the TudiApps brand. Our general privacy policy covers the website and our other apps.
In short: Bookmad needs an account so your library, notes and reading history survive a change of phone. That data is stored on our own servers in the EU. We record which days you use the app and a few feature events to improve it — never the text of your notes or quotes — and you can turn this off. The camera works on your phone; photos are not uploaded. The free version shows ads through Google AdMob; the ad-free subscription removes them. We never sell your data.
What Bookmad collects
- Your account: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture as Google shares them. You can change your display name in the app. Passwords for email sign-in are stored only as a secure hash.
- Your library: the books you add (title, author, pages, categories, cover, status, where the book is), your progress, when you finished a book, and covers you choose from your phone, which are uploaded so they appear on your other devices.
- Notes and quotes: the page number, the quote and your own note. Photos you attach to a note stay on your phone and are not uploaded.
- Reading history: reading sessions (when they started and how long you actually read), pages and minutes per day, your streak and streak freezes, your monthly goal, the badges you earned and your reading room — the objects you earned and where you placed them.
- Usage statistics (you can turn these off; see below): the days you use the app while signed in and a small set of feature events.
- Crash reports: when the app crashes, a report with the device model, operating system version, app version and the code trace goes to a Sentry server we host ourselves. Account tokens, email addresses and the contents of your books and notes are never included.
- Ads: in the free version Google AdMob collects your device’s advertising ID, IP address and device information to show ads, measure them and prevent fraud.
- Purchases: Google Play handles payment for the ad-free subscription. The app only receives a purchase confirmation; we never see your card details.
Some things stay on your phone only: your daily reading goal, reminder times and notification history, search history, app language and region settings, and the home screen widget. Reminders are scheduled on the phone; Bookmad does not use push notifications from a server. The app does not ask for your location, contacts or microphone, and has no chat.
Camera and photos
Bookmad uses the camera only when you choose to scan a book’s barcode, take a photo of a page to capture a quote, or read a page number. Text and barcodes are recognised on your phone and the photos are not uploaded; only the text you decide to save becomes part of your note.
Finding books
When you search for a book or scan a barcode, our server looks it up in our own catalogue and, if needed, in Kitapyurdu, Google Books and Open Library. Only the search words or the ISBN are sent to these services — no personal information.
Insight Book AI is optional: if you use it to add a book from a cover photo or a link, our server sends that photo, or the text of that web page, to Google Gemini to read the book’s details. Nothing else about you is sent, and you review the result before saving.
Shared quotes
You can choose to share a quote from your notes in Discover, one quote at a time; nothing is shared unless you turn it on for that quote. Other Bookmad users then see the quote, the book’s title and author and the page number. Your own note and photos are never shown. By default the quote appears as “A reader”; your display name is shown only if you choose “Show my name”. You can stop sharing a quote at any time, and shared quotes are deleted with your note or your account.
Other users can report a shared quote. To prevent abuse we store who reported which quote and why; a quote reported by several people is hidden and reviewed. Quotes containing links or phone numbers cannot be shared.
Usage statistics
To understand which features help people read, Bookmad records the days on which you use the app while signed in, and a small set of feature events — for example whether a reading session was saved with the timer, the quick sheet or a notification; which quote card design you shared; whether a page number could be read from a photo; how many objects your reading room has and whether you rearranged it.
These records are linked to your account. They never contain the text of your quotes or notes, book titles, your name or your email address. They are stored on our own servers, used only to improve Bookmad, and are not shared with third parties or used for advertising.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share usage statistics. When it is off, the app stops sending events, deletes any events not yet sent, and our server stops recording your active days. Usage statistics are kept for 24 months and then deleted automatically; they are also deleted together with your account.
What leaves the phone, and where
| What | Where to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account, library, covers you chose, notes and quotes, reading history, reading room, usage statistics | Our servers in the EU | To keep your data in your account and on all your devices, and to improve Bookmad |
| Crash reports (device model, OS version, code trace) | Our self-hosted Sentry server | To find and fix crashes |
| Search words or ISBN (no personal information) | Kitapyurdu, Google Books, Open Library — through our server | To find books and their details |
| A cover photo or the text of a web page, only when you use Insight Book AI | Google Gemini (Google LLC) — through our server | To read the book’s details for you |
| Sign-in with Google | Google Sign-In (Google LLC) | To sign you in; Google shares your email, name and profile picture with us |
| Advertising ID, IP address, device information (free version only) | Google AdMob (Google LLC) | To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud |
| Purchase confirmation | Google Play (Google LLC) | To unlock the ad-free subscription and restore it on a new device |
Anything you send from the app with the share button — a quote card, a picture of your shelf — goes only where you choose to send it.
Ads and consent
The free version shows a banner at the top of the main tabs and, at most a few times a day, a full-screen ad after you finish a reading session or after a badge celebration — never in your first minutes in the app. While the ad-free yearly subscription is active, the app requests no ads at all. The subscription is billed by Google Play and belongs to your Google Play account, not to your Bookmad account: deleting your Bookmad account does not cancel it. Cancel it from Play Store → Subscriptions.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s consent form asks you first: you can consent, decline or choose purposes, and change your choice later from Settings → Ad preferences. Without consent Google shows non-personalised ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings (on Android: Settings → Google → Ads).
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account data until you delete it. Usage statistics are deleted after 24 months.
- Delete your account: Profile → Settings → Delete my account. Your account, library, covers, notes, shared quotes, reading history, badges, reading room and usage statistics are deleted immediately and you are signed out on every device. You can also ask from the web: account and data deletion.
- Keep the account, clear the data: Profile → Settings → Reset DB (Books & Stats) deletes your books, notes, reading history, badges and reading room from the phone and from our servers.
- Uninstalling the app removes what is stored only on the phone.
Children
Bookmad is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and KVKK), you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data and object to its use. You can turn off usage statistics and change your ad consent in the app at any time. Write to [email protected].
Changes
When this policy changes we update this page and the date at the top.
